Royal Challengers Bournegalore opened their defence of the Jaidka Cup with a comfortable seven-wicket win over Spalding Saints at the Abbey Lawns tonight (May 13).
The holders restricted Spalding to 126-7 in their 20 overs before racing to victory with plenty to spare. Carl Wilson (57) top scored for Bourne, while Rob Dunn was unbeaten on 30 at the close.
Warren Nel (44) batted best for Spalding in the face of some steady bowling from Johnny Murdoch (2-22) and Jack Berry (2-24).
Elsewhere overseas talent shone bright as Ketton Lions and Nassington Knights racked up huge scores.
Aussie Ben Bryant smacked 101 as Ketton piled up 191-3 against Burghley Park Bears, while Kiwi Ryan Duffy blasted 99 from just 40 balls as Nassington amassed 207-4 against Castor Harlequins. Duffy faced just 40 balls and whacked seven sixes and eight fours to set up a 110-run win.
Ketton won by 34 runs as Burghley’s Chris Meadows cracked an unbeaten 70 in his side’s 161-7.
The Jaidka Cup entrants have been split into four zones of three this season with the winners of each zone reaching the semi-finals.
Ketton, Bourne and Nassington could all seal their semi-final slots next Wednesday (May 20) when they all return to action.
Barnack, Market Deeping Dragons, Peterborough Town Newflames and Ramsey Raiders all play their first games next week.
Tonight’s scheduled zone D game between Wisbech Wildcats and March Crows was postponed and will be played on a future date yet to be decided.
