Seamer Brodie Ellis claimed his first five-wicket haul at Cambs Division One level to help Wisbech to a 66-run win in the Fen derby at March.
Ellis returned figures of 5-43 as March were dismissed for 125. Only opener Ash Vodnala (48) offered much resistance for the home side who are now clear favourites for relegation.
March are 22 points from safety with just three games to go, but it was almost a very different story as Wisbech were struggling at 65-5 and 86-6 before Gary Freear (76 batting at number seven) and Jason Esser (29) added 100 for the seventh wicket to push Wisbech up to 191.
The winners still have designs on the title, but unbeaten leaders Godmanchester show no signs of slowing down. They reeled off win number 15 (from 19 games) of the summer when seeing off Ketton by six wickets at Pit Lane.
South African all-rounder Ulrich Van Duyker (43 & 4-68) enjoyed a decent day for Ketton, while Josh Gallimore scored 41 of the home side’s 128.
Reigning champions Ramsey are back in third, but 94 points behind Wisbech, after a tense two-wicket win over Nassington at Cricketfield Lane.
Elliott Cafferkey (5-53 & 50) and Joe Barningham (34 & 3-43) were Ramsey’s star men as they overcame early batting troubles to pass Nassington’s 171. Ramsey were 45-4 at one point. Skipper Alex Laud top scored with 52 for Nassington, while Kiwi Ryan Duffy claimed 4-33.
Khalsa’s late charge towards survival in Division Two continued with a five-wicket win at Abington. That’s two wins in a row for Khalsa who are still 22 points from safety.
Newborough are safely in mid-table despite a 69-run reverse at home to St Ives. Greg Rowland (48) and Robbie Trickett (43) batted best in Newborough’s 130 all out.
