Peterborough Town, champions in four of last five seasons, started their 2015 Rutland Division One campaign with a narrow nine-run over Nassington at Bretton Gate yesterday (April 26).

A young Town were indebted to some rare runs from captain Jamie Smith (40) and good support from Marcus Howard (33) and Sheerhari Subarmonian (31) to sneak past 200, but Nassington looked set for victory when bang in-form Dan Robinson (60) and Connor Craig (45) were putting together a sizeable third-wicket stand.

But their departures prompted a collapse and the visitors were eventually dismissed 10 runs shot of victory with 11 balls to spare, Occasional left-arm twirler Callum French (3-43) was the pick of the Town bowling while paceman Smith picked up two wickets and wicket-keeper Chris Milner claimed four victims.

Oundle’s perfect start to the season is over after they lost a high-scoring clash to Bourne at the Abbey Lawns. Marc Bell, Petrus Jeftha and Jack Bolsover all passed 50 in Oundle’s 242-4, but 112 from captain Peter Morgan and 92 from Ben Stroud helped see Bourne home in the final over.

Josh Bowers and Sam Albutt both scored 62 as Wisbech won comfortably by six wickets at Stamford, while Barnack won a low scoring game at home to Eaton Socon by four wickets.
