Nassington pulled off a thrilling one-run win at Eaton Socon yesterday (June 25) to extend their lead at the top of Cambs Division One.
It looked an unlikely victory as the home side reached 55-1 and then 141-7 chasing 150, but three late wickets for the Bandaranaike brothers stole the points. Dan Bandaranaike nabbed the final wicket after Alex Bandaranaike had finished with 3-21.
It was a tough game for batsmen with Nassington opener James Pope recording the top score in the match of 29.
Nassington are now six points clear of second-placed Foxton with Ramsey still in third despite a five wicket defeat at Godmanchester.
Ramsey lost a crucial toss and found batting hard in damp conditions. A total of 112 was never likely to be enough.
Rain interrupted the game at Ketton which Wisbech won by virtue of a faster scoring rate.
Jack Hargreaves (54) played well in Wisbech’s 202 and Paul Edgeller’s early three-wicket burest ensured Ketton were always behind the necessary scoring rate, reaching 127-6 in 36 overs before the rain came.
Ulrich Van Duyker (3-10 from nine overs) had bowled well for Ketton.
In Division Two March were surprisingly knocked off the top by a 40-run defeat at home to Fordham. Once more their batting let them down as they folded to 128 all-out despite 68 from Aussie Sam Freedman.
Uffod Park beat Newborough on scoring rate. Tanvir Hussain (61) and skipper Andy Larkin (51) dominated Ufford’s 166 and Hussain also took three wickets as Newborough laboured to 91-9 in reply. Wahid Javed (4-23) also bowled well for Ufford with only David Cooper (51) offering much resistance for Newborough.
