Michael Hobbiss continued his outstanding Burghley Park sixes form as the host club powered into the final of the popular competition last night (July 7).
Hobbiss added an unbeaten 55 in a 20-run win over the fancied Ketton side in a quarter-final tie to add to the unbeaten 40 he scored in the first round win over Market Overton.
Hobbiss’ hot form enabled Burghley to post a formidable five-over score of 92-1 which proved too many even for the hard hitters in the Ketton side.
Burghley now face a tasty semi-final tonight with last season’s runners-up Nassington.
Ufford Park’s Ross Keymer also batted well last night to help his side escape from early trouble in their quarter-final against Uppingham.
Ufford looked dead and buried when losing three early wickets in pursuit of Uppingham’s 71-3, but Keymer’s 37 not out guided them home with two balls to spare.
Baston left it even later before pipping Newborough to the last semi-final berth. The Pigs scraped pasdt Newborough’s 69-2 with a ball in hand.
Baston’s Robert Dunn collected the ‘champagne moment’ prize after taking a spectacular catch.
Baston and Ufford Park now clash in tonight’s second semi-final.
