Holders Stamford eased through their first round match in the Burghley Park sixes last night (July 6).
It looked a stern challenge on paper against Uppingham, but Stamford restricted their opponents to 62-4 in five overs before cruising home thanks to 32 in just nine balls from Simon Prentice.
Chris Bore claimed two wickets for Stamford in his over.
Stamford now tackle Market Overton in the first quarter-final on Wednesday (July 8) and they will be wary of openers Brian Makwana and Adam Clarke who thrashed 82 without being parted in their 17 run win over Uffington.
Makwana blasted 44 which included six fours and a six. Tom Bentley (46no) responded well for Uffington with the highest individual score of the night, but it was too little too kate.
Castor also progressed at the expense of their hosts Burghley Park. Jason Dunn concede just four runs from his over before Simon Biggs (30no) gave Burghley a competititive total of 60-1.
But Aussie Nathan Monaghan was in fine form for Castor, striking an unbeaten 42 to steer his side home with five balls to spare.
Reece Smith of Castor won the champagne moment of the night for a terrific boundary catch.
UPPINGHAM 62-4 (A. Ashwin 30, C. Bore 2-10) lost to STAMFORD 63-1 (S. Prentice 32no).
MARKET OVERTON 82-0 (B. Makwana 44no, A. Clarke 34no) beat UFFINGTON 65-2 (T. Bentley 46no).
BURGHLEY PARK 60-3 (S. Biggs 30no) lost to CASTOR 61-2 (N. Monaghan 42no),
