An opening stand of 173 between Bob Milne (Peterborough Town) and Nigel Gadsby helped power Cambs/Hunts to the final of the Eastern Region Over 60s event with a 17-run semi-final win over Herts at Harpenden yesterday (Septemnber 15).

Milne went on to crack 107 - his second successive ton in the competition - while Gadsby settled for 88 as Cambs/Hunts amassed 240-4 in their 45 overs. Captain Nick Andrews (Market Deeping) finished unbeaten on 24 and then claimed 3-39 as Herts closed on 223-7.

Cambs/Hunts take on Essex in the final next Tuesday (September 22).

Local cricket legend Ajaz Akhtar played his first England game since 2002 on Sunday (September 13) when helping them to win two over 50 international matches against Wales at Radlett CC. Akhtar scored 16 not out in a nine-wicket win and claimed 3-12 in a 56 run success when he also finished unbeaten on 14.

Peterborough Town’s wicket-keeper/batsman Chris Milner claimed five victims behind the stumps and scored 43 on his Cambridgeshire Minor Counties debut against leading club side Swardeston (Norfolk) on Sunday.

Clubmate Mohammed Danyaal picked up 2-37 as Swardeston were dismissed for 187 before Cambs were bowled out for 165. Town skipper David Clarke made seven with Danyaal scoring 12.

Oundle’s Harrison Craig returned excellent figures of 1-25 from 10 overs.

In club cricket Barnack became the first team to lower Burghley Park’s colours in Division One North of the Hunts League and they did it in emphatic fashion by 186 runs. Yasir Mirza (76no) and Danny Malik (67) did best in Barnack’s 255-6 before Bashrat Hussain (5-21) helped skittle Park for just 60. Burghley can’t be caught at the top of the table. Weekend wins over Upwood and Godmanchester ensured Falcon can’t now be caught at the top of Division One South.

Joe Harring’s 5-30 and half centuries from Matt Smith and Hamish Bell pushed Ufford Park to the top of Rutland Division Two with a resounding 106-run win over previous leaders Oakham.

CAMRA’s Nick Bradbury claimed his 600th wicket for the club during a three-wicket friendly win over Castor. Stuart Dockerill and Ross Porter struck half centuries in Castor’s 192-9. Sam Tyler made 51 for CAMRA.
