Ashley Rodgers whacked an unbeaten 73 from 59 balls on his first bat of the season for Ketton yesterday (July 11).

Rodgers, a former Peterborough Town player, was somehow persuaded out of semi-retirement by the Lions for their Cambs Division One clash at Waresley and he responded with a scintillating knock which included 12 fours and a six and helped complete a seven-wicket win.

Ulrich Van Duyker (43no) was alongside Rodgers at the close and the South African also bowled well, taking 4-38 as Waresley were dismissed for 183.

Wisbech still top the table after losing just two wickets chasing Saffron Walden seconds’ total of 197. In-form opener Sam Albutt (76) top scored for Wisbech after Gary Freear (4-40) had taken his wickets’ tally for the season to 33, the second best total in the division.

Teenager Harrison Craig is just two wickets behind Freear after another outstanding spell in Nassington’s six-wicket win against March.

The 15 year-old bagged 6-27 with his left-arm spin as March were dismissed for 115, a total the home side passed comfortably thanks to Kiwi import Ryan Duffy (52no).

Reigning champions Ramsey remain third in the table after despatching Foxton by seven wickets. Michael Cafferkey (76) scored the bulk of Ramsey’s 133-3.

David Cooper’s 70 pushed Newborough up to 244-9 in their Division Two clash at home to Sawston & Babraham and that proved 52 too many for the bottom club.

Khalsa remain deep in relegation trouble after losing by 81 runs at home to Fordham.
