CRICKET: Five Peterborough Town stars in Cambs side

Peterborough Town have supplied five players for Cambridgeshire's opening Minor Counties Trophy match on Sunday (April 24).

New Cambs skipper Lewis Bruce will be joined by club-mates Joe Dawborn, David Sayer, Tim Young and Asim Butt for the 50-over match against Norfolk at March Town CC (11am start). Bruce has replaced injured all-rounder Paul McMahon at the helm.

Wisbech pair Sam Rippington and James Williams are also included, along with former Ketton professional Rob Woolley. New pro Ben Smith makes his debut with newcomer Nesan Jeyjaratnun, a former skipper of Hertfordshire, and Craig Park making up the 11.

Young will keep wicket, a role he doesn’t perform for Town. Nassington’s Dan Robinson had been ear-marked to be wicket-keeper, but he has picked up a knee injury playing football.

Town skipper David Clarke would have been included, but he opted to take charge of his club side’s opening round tie in the National club Championships against Leighton Buzzard at Bretton Gate (1pm start).

Town open their Northants Premier Division season with a home game against Wollaston tomorrow (April 23, noon).

Town host Dutch touring side VVV CC in a Twenty/20 friendly at Bretton Gate tonight (April 22, 5.30pm).
