Clarion ace Langlands rides well in the National

The event was run over a hilly course from Plymouth, where fast times were never going to be the order of the day.

Langlands finished in an excellent 23rd place with his time of 1.51.23 to average a shade under 27mph.

Peterborough Cycling Club hosted the fifth round of the Northants time-trial series on the Stilton based N1/15 course.

Leading Clarion rider was Steve Kaye in 35.16 for 11th place.

Other Clarion times: Simon Pitchford 35.24, Jerry Norman 35.55, Richard Moys 36.16, Malc Jacklin 36.37, Sean Beard 37.59, Phil Marritt 41.35.

The winning margin in the Clarion 2-Up Championship was just nine seconds as youngsters Jerry Norman and Tom Stocks gave the favourites Simon Pitchford and Andrew Gilbert quite a scare with their time of 50.13. Third place went to Paul Lilley and Steve Kaye with 50.36.

Fenland Clarion hosted another evening of youth grasstrack racing at the Embankment on Friday when 34 young riders took part.

In the Under 8 age group Clarion’s Harry Tozer held off the challenge of Thorpe Ventures rider Nieve Bryant while in the Under 10s Kings Cliffe flyer William Barraclough pipped Oliver Tilley (Clarion) by just one point.

Three victories bought maximum points for Harry Tilley (Clarion) as he swept to victory in the Under 12 section with Adam Lea taking second and Devonne Picaver claiming third place.

Jensen Barraclough (Kings Cliffe) was undefeated in the Under 14 age group to leave the host club’s Cameron Neilson having to settle for second from his clubmate Luke Armstrong in third place.

Mia Purnell took the Under 16 award.
