City of Peterborough Ladies start their title push in Cambridge

City open their East Premier Division campaign at Cambridge City seconds tomorrow (September 22) and the title and promotion to the National League is the target.

City’s men return to elite competition on Sunday, September 30 when hosting Old Georgians in an National East Conference match.

City Ladies finished third last season behind champions Ipswich and Canterbury seconds. Cambridge City finished mid-table, but could be strong tomorrow.

City of Peterborough have lost gifted teenager Jeorgia Carr as she is in the United States on a football scholarship, while key defender Emma Faux is still recovering from the shoulder injury that ended her season early 12 months ago.

But they have attracted Jodie Abrahams and Amy Wells from Spalding, Leah Goodley from Long Sutton and Hannah Knotts from Reading.

“Pre-season has gone well,” captain Robyn Gribble stated. “Things are looking very positive.”

City’s men continued their pre-season campaign by participating in the high quality ‘PLUM’ tournament at Lea Valley last weekend.

City won two, drew one and lost one - 6-1 to Leeds - of their matches at the Olympic Stadium.

City complete their pre-season programme at home to fellow National League side Nottingham University at Bretton Gate on Sunday (2pm).

Bourne Deeping take on Spalding in a big local derby to start the Premier B Division season at Arthur Mellows Village College, Glinton tomorrow (11am).

Spalding were relegated from the Premier A Division last season.
