Gribble struck midway through the second-half by firing the ball under the Cambridge goalkeeper after fine work down the left by Melissa Ludlam, Katy Lee and new signing Leah Goodley.

The home side had started the game the brighter, but City of Peterborough also enjoyed some good moments with Lucy Dakin, Ellie Bolsover and Lee prominent.

The second-half developed into an exciting end-to-end affair with Verity Allen, newcomer, and player-of-the-match Hannah Knotts, Kate Dixon and Georgia Morton all impressing.

But it was Gribble who delivered the decisive moment to give the side who finished third last term a winning start.
