City of Peterborough blown away by Canterbury's fast start

As a result the hosts romped to a 6-1 win in the National East Conference to leave City with three points from their first three games ahead of an eagerly awaited ‘derby’ against Cambridge City at Bretton Gate this Sunday (October 21, 1.30pm).

Canterbury have started with mixed fortunes this season, so were determined to be fast out of the blocks in front of their home crowd, winning and converting a short corner in only the third minute.

By the 22nd minute they had extended their lead to 4-0, through three field goals, as they exploited a sluggish start from City to open up an apparent gulf between the sides, which shouldn’t have been there, had the visiors played anywhere near their potential.

The second half was a more balanced affair with Canterbury adding a further two open play goals, with Adam Wilson replying for City with a fine individual goal.
