City of Peterborough are determined to bounce back from a hammering this weekend

City of Peterborough were hammered on their return to National League hockey, but they are far from disheartened.

City were crushed 7-1 by Old Georgians at Bretton Gate in their first Conference East game for five years last weekend (October 7), but they were probably taking on the title favourites, a team that included current and former Great Britain internationals.

City travel to more familiar opponents Old Loughtonians this Sunday (October 14) and with a greater chance of victory,

“We knew it would be a tough re-introduction to the National League,” Booth said. “In open play we matched Old Georgians for large periods, however their experience and clinical finishing ultimately made the difference.

“It will have been a great experience for the majority of the squad with 10 of the 16 making their National League debuts.

“If we can continue to improve as much as we did over the course of that one game then we will be competing for points everywhere we go this season, including Old Loughts this weekend.

“Games against Old Loughts are normally close with three wins apiece from the last six meetings so we expect it to be another exciting game.”

City of Peterborough Ladies have won both of their opening two East Premier Division fixtures.

They saw off Broxbourne 3-1 at Bretton Gate and are one of three teams to claim six points from their opening two matches. Tomorrow they travel to face a Sevenoaks second team who have lost their first two games.

Spalding are off and running in the Men’s Premier B Division after a hard-fought 2-1 home win over Blueharts, the team that came down with them from the Premier A Division last season.

Stuart Cunnington and Glen Richardson scored the Spalding goals.

Bourne Deeping are yet to win at this level. They went down 4-3 at Havering, while City of Peterborough seconds opened their win account for the season with a 4-2 success over West Herts seconds.

Bourne Deeping host Waltham Forest tomorrow when Spalding travel to Wapping seconds and City of Peterborough are at Ipswich & East Suffolk.

Long Sutton seconds are the early pacetters in Division Four West as two goals from Josh Fyson helped set up a 4-1 win over Cambridge City and make it two wins from two games.

City of Peterborough Ladies seconds are another team at the top of a table with a 100 per cent winning record. They head Division Two North West after a 7-0 thrashing of St Ives.
