CAMBS LEAGUE: Ramsey are out-foxed, Wisbech keep winning, Crows and Bulls tied up

The teams started the day as the top two, but Ramsey have now slipped to third, 32 points off top spot with six matches to go

Wisbech could yet mount the strongest local challenge for the title as they extended their winning streak under new captain Sam Rippington to four matches. The Fenmen move above Ramsey into second spot, by one points, as a result.

The latest was the most impressive victory of them all as Godmanchester, who started the day in third place, were despatched by 60 runs at Harecroft Road.

Opener Danny Haynes’ patient 50 set up a steady batting effort as Wisbech posted 240-9 in their 50 overs. Jamie Gollands’ 48 from 37 balls (three sixes) and Paul Edgeller (31no from 28 balls) gave the innings late impetus.

And once star Goddy man Tariq Aziz had been dismissed for just 10 by Rippington the visitors laboured despite 83 from overseas batsman Jarryd Phillips.

Unsung star Brodie Ellis has been picking up plenty of wickets recently and he continued here with 3-26.

Nassington ended their run of four straight defeats with a much-needed 29-run win over struggling Burwell seconds at Fotheringay Road.

Aussie Adam McDermott was the big-hitting hero as he scored 109 of Nassington’s 206. McDermott cracked 13 fours and three sixes and it was just as well he was in form as Dan Bandarnaike was the next top scorer with 20.

Harrison Craig and James Pope each claimed three wickets as Burwell were bowled out for 177.

Ketton can surely start planning for another season in the top-flight after their 70-run win at Saffron Walden eased any fears of relegation.

Shakir Mahmood’s 54 was the best effort in Ketton’s 171 all out and he also claimed two home wickets.

Peter Rowe (3-25) returned the best figures as the home side were shot out for just 101.

The Division Two promotion race is set to be a humdinger after leaders St Ives were beaten by 13 runs at Ufford Park and second-placed March were involved in a tied game with Newborough. St Ives still head the division by two points from March with Saffron Walden seconds just 15 points further adrift. Two teams will go up.

Newborough have been completely out of form in recent weeks and that rotten run appeared likely to continue when they slumped to 78-7 at Burrowmoor Road.

But Vamshi Parvathaneni and Matt Cawley added 104 for the eighth wicket. Parvathaneni finished unbeaten on 51 after striking seven fours and a six, while Cawley whacked two sixes in his 48.

The pair enabled the Bulls to close on 185-8, but they still looked likely to lose as the home side - the Crows when they play Twenty/20 cricket - reached 183-7, but three wickets fell for just two runs to complete a dramatic contest.

Dave Stratton dismissed March skipper Tyler Phillips for 13, Kyeran Ellery then trapped Andrew Wright lbw for a duck before Stratton clean bowled Andrew Mills for 30 to finish the game.

Despite their efforts Newborough dropped a place to go next-to-bottom in a division where three go down, but they are only three points from safety.

Ufford beat St Ives without the services of star men Andy Larkin and Ross Keymer.

Tanvir Hussain cracked 86 to improve Ufford from 46-5 to 158 and then saw off a St Ives fightback as the visitors’ last pair put on 46.

Wahid Javed and Alex Emerson claimed three wickets apiece for Ufford. Emerson was also the second highest scorer with the bat -he made 12!
