Foxton became the fifth different team to reach the summit this summer yesterday (July 2) thanks to an easy win over Histon and a defeat for the team that started the day on top, Nassington, at home to Ramsey.

Ramsey won by four wickets at Fotheringay Road to complete a Division One double over Nassington this season.

They won a key toss yesterday and Nassington never fully recovered from the loss of both openers in the early stages to ‘Rams’ skipper Michael Cafferkey.

Aussie Adam McDermott, who was dismissed by a quite brilliant boundary catch by James Markland, and Conor Craig delivered attractive batting cameos, but Cafferkey (4-23) and fellow opening bowler Mark Edwards (3-31) were the major players as Nassington were dismissed for 121.

Ramsey stuttered at the start of their innings and were 42-3 when Cafferkey fell during a speedy opening spell from Tom Norman (2-23), but Markland (33) and Jordan Cafferkey (36) put on 66 for the fourth wicket to make victory inevitable.

The pair were cautious against 16 year-old slow bowler Harrison Craig (10-2-13-0), but opened up in fine style when the left-armer’s spell was over.

Ramsey are third, two points behind Nassington and 19 points behind Foxton. Nassington’s gllom deepened with news that star batsman/wicket-keeper Dan Robinson has been ruled out for the season with knee ligament damage.

Ketton secured a fine eight-wicket win at Eaton Socon, but remain just nine points outside the drop zone as relegation rivals Burwell seconds also won a dramatic game by four runs at Wisbech.

Ketton were presented with a reduced victory target of 154 because of a rain interruption and breezed home thanks to marquee players Shakir Mahmood (54no) and Zeeshan Manzoor (41no) and 47 from Josh Gallimore. Manzoor finished the game off in typical style with back-to-back sixes - two of three he hit in his innings.

Wisbech are enduring a frustrating campaign and that frustration increased with a failure to get past Burwell’s 179-8.

Gary Freear (5-11 & 32) played well, but the Fenmen are marooned in mid-table.

Ufford Park’s first season in Cambs Division Two is turning into a triumph. They claimed a seventh win of the season with a handsome 102-run success at Fordham.

Skipper Andy Larkin was the star of the show with a brilliant 136 which contained 20 fours. He put on 127 for the first wicket with Tom Hart (41) as Ufford piled up 311-4 in their 50 overs.

Waqas Javed gave Ufford’s innings late impetus with a sweetly struck 61 which included four sixes.

March, who are badly missing injured veteran Chris Ringham, are clinging on to second spot despite suffering a second successive defeat yesterday. They went down by three wickets at lowly Sawston and Babraham despite 49 from Ben Pyle and four wickets for Tommy Howgego.

Newborough’s batting let them down for the second week in a row. They were shot out for 106 on the way to a four-wicket loss at leaders St Ives. Andrew Gilbert made 45 of those.
