Busy weekend for the Borough junior section

Peterborough Rugby Club's junior section got their season underway with a bang at the weekiend.

The Under 12s were at Franklin’s Gardens for the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup and made a phenomenal start to the prestigious event.

They won their first three matches - against Leighton Buzzard, Tabard from near Watford and Olney - with 13 tries scored and just two conceded.

However, as the pressure mounted and they tired, three defeats were to follow, but a parade around the pitch at half-time as Saints took on Saracens in the Gallagher Premiership made it a memorable day out.

The Under 7s, playing their first ever match, and Under 8s were also in Northampton, for the Old Northamptonians club’s centenary celebrations, playing curtain-raiser games for the league match between the two club’s senior teams.

There was defeat, though, for Borough’s Under 16s and Under 15s in their first East Midlands League matches of the season.

Brandon Tacticos scored two tries as the Under 16s lost 28-12 to Leighton Buzzard while the Under 15s were unlucky to be edged out 34-26 away at Brackley.

Their try-scorers were flanker George Salisbury, fly-half Josh Webster, number eight and captain Taylor Shortland and outside centre Ethan Manning. Lawrence Teague kicked three conversions.

Leah Lilley and Liberty Ashdown from the girls’ section, along with England international Harry Missin from the PRUFC under-14 boys’ side were playing for the East Midlands Touch Rugby squad in the inter-region tournament in Oxford. They finished as joint runners-up with four wins, a draw and a defeat from the day.
