CITY fighter JJ Bird and his manager/trainer Gary De Roux were both 'gutted' after suffering a controversial points loss in London at the weekend.Bird gave a good account of himself over four rounds against Aylesbury's Nathan Graham at Kensington Town Hall and most at ringside thought he'd done more than enough to get the verdict.
But the referee awarded it to Graham 39-37 to leave De Roux fuming.
"There is no way JJ lost that fight," said De Roux.
"Okay he might have lost the second round but he clearly won the other three. We were both absolutely gutted by the decision.
"Graham only connected with two punches in every round whereas JJ battered him from pillar to post in the last two rounds.
"Loads of people came up to us afterwards and showed us how they'd scored it on their programmes and they all had JJ winning.
"It's a major setback for JJ because a win here would have put him right in the Southern Area title reckoning. Now it's back to the drawing board.
"It's such a shame because he did everything asked of him and I feel so sorry for the lad. But then that's boxing for you."
