The 17 year-old from Eastfield has been handed a match with Tommy Fury in the Monkstown Cup, which gets underway on Friday, July 1.

Fury, whose brother Tyson meets Wladimir Klitschko in their much-anticipated heavyweight rematch in Manchester next month, has won Irish honours, but Tomasevic heads into the bout confident after claiming silver at the Haringey Box Cup at the weekend.

Lewis Williams, from Cleary’s Amateur Boxing Club in Leamington Spa, unanimously outpointed him in the Youth final at 91kgs, but Tomasevic took plenty of positives from what was always going to be a tough bout.

Earlier this season, Williams won NABC honours, he’s had twice as many bouts as Tomasevic, and he’s six inches taller at 6ft 6ins.

It was Tomasevic’s first defeat in nine fights but Chris Baker, his coach at Peterborough Police Amateur Boxing Club, said: “I’m proud of Artur.

“He took a big step up in class, he had never boxed three-minute rounds before and he wasn’t a million miles away.

“If he had the same experience as Williams, he may well have won.

“If he had closed the range a bit earlier it would have been a much closer fight.

“That’s how short heavyweights win fights, the way Mike Tyson did it. You have to get inside because if you stand off, you’re going to get beaten.

“Perhaps Artur showed him a bit too much respect.

“He’s broken-hearted to lose, but he will bounce back.

“It was a good learning experience for Artur. Now he knows where he needs to be.”
