Sam plansto get back on track with a Rigaring return

Barron has endured three years of frustration since his last fight, but under new manager Steve Goodwin, the 27 year-old from Eye is set to get his career moving again.

He’s set to be matched over four rounds in Riga on Sunday, April 24.

Should all go well, Barron will fight again at the York Hall in Bethnal Green on Saturday, May 7 in another four-rounder.

He said: “It was Steve’s idea to have this fight in Latvia.

“He has regular shows in London, but I can’t sell 70 or 80 tickets to fight there every month, so this makes sense.

“Steve has contacts in Latvia and has three or four other fighters on the show this month.

“I could have one or two more fights out there this year and by the end of the year I could be 10-0 and have some big fights in front of me.

“I’ve been out for too long and Steve wants to fast track me and get me back to where I should be. I have some catching up to do.

“I want to get back on the radar and get people talking about me again.

“I want to stay with it this time.”

Barron made an explosive start to his professional career.

The rangy puncher, who models himself on tragic knockout artist Gerald McClellan, made his debut three years ago after a promising amateur career and soon racked up three wins (two inside-the-distance).

But he has been out of the ring since he overpowered Bobby Wood inside a couple of rounds at the East of England Showground in June, 2013.

“It’s been horrible,” said Barron. “I’ve been messed about, fights have fallen through and I’ve had injuries.

“I’ve been training, eating right, not going out and it’s all been for nothing because there’s been no fight at the end of it.”

Barron reports his back injury has cleared up and in recent weeks, he’s been over to Dudley to spar Ricky Summers, an unbeaten light-heavyweight on the brink of a British-title shot.

He has also been training with father - and ex-professional - Gary at Vic’s Gym in Hampton.

Gary fought top-quality opposition in his own 25-fight career - including European champion Pat ‘Black Flash’ Barrett - and his son said: “Dad has been there, done it and got the T shirt.

“That’s what you want in your corner. You want someone who knows what you’re going through in there - and nobody knows how to get more out of me than my dad. He knows me better than anyone.”
