Two fighters from the Peterborough Police Amateur Boxing Club acquitted themselves well when appearing on the Army v Police show at the Spalding Exhibition Centre.
Both were narrowly beaten on points, but emerged with credit.
Imraan Shirazi (11) from Bretton gave away age and weight in his 35kg bout with Alfie Buckley from the Allcomers ABC.
It was a tough test for Shirazi against a national finalist last year and he played his part in a thrilling three-rounder packed with action.
“This was a fantastic opening bout and the crowd loved it. I honestly believe Imraan can beat this lad next time round,” said Peterborough Police coach Chris Baker.
Peterborough’s Imran Aref (17) was also involved in a close bout, just missing out on a split decision in a 63kg match with John Smith from the Fenland Sparta ABC.
“There were only a few punches in it. It could have gone either way,” said Baker.
