City boxer Jaan’sher Raja wowed his coaches with another quality performance at the weekend.
The tall 15 year-old from West Town fought for his Peterborough Police Amateur Boxing Club at a show in Norwich and improved his record to three wins from four fights with a comfortable points victory.
He boxed strong front-foot fighter Jordan Gosling from St Oysth ABC and dominated the bout with his quality long shots.
“He jabbed the lad’s head off,” said Peterborough Police coach Chris Baker. “His opponent just couldn’t get near him.
“It was a very good, mature performance and Jaan’sher is a definite champ in the making.”
The city club had two other fighters in action at the Norwich ABC show at the Mercure Hotel but both suffered points losses.
Connor Dane (14) from Newborough was up against a far more experienced fighter in Reece Leggett from Norwich ABC and acquitted himself well.
“I honestly thought Connor had rounds one and three in the bag but we lost on a split decision,” said Baker.
“I’m really proud with Connor’s progress. He’s definitely moving in the right direction.”
Muhammad Khan (16) from Millfield topped the bill against local favourite Josh Cameron and they turned in a real crowd-pleaser.
Both lads gave their all and provided a thrilling finale to the 13-bout show but another split decision went against the Peterborough boxer.
“Muhammad gave another strong performance and did the club proud,” said Baker.
“He never turns down a bout whenever I tell him he’s fighting even with just 24 hours notice. He’s always well up for it!
“He’s improving with every contest and I’m looking forward to seeing his career progress in the years ahead.”
All the Peterborough Police ABC boxers will be appearing at the club’s show on Saturday December 16 at the Queen Catherine Academy, Walton. Ticket details are available from boxers or from Chris Baker on 07921095122.
