Jordan Gill has vowed to bring the Commonwealth title back to Chatteris.
The unbeaten Fenland featherweight star takes on holder Ryan Doyle for the belt next month.
The October 27 showdown at the Copper Box Arena in London is the biggest fight to date in what has been something of a slow-burning career for Gill, who boasts a perfect record of 21 wins.
The 24 year-old saw his progress stall during almost 18 months of inactivity when with previous trainer Brendan Ingle, but it has kicked back into gear since a switch to the Dave Coldwell stable.
Gill has won all five outings in the past year to climb the ladder and has been rewarded with what he describes as a ‘career-defining fight’.
Gill said: “It’s the fight I wanted and I’m delighted it has been made.
“It’s taken a long time to get into the position where I can challenge for titles and I can’t wait for October 27.
“I just want to bring the Commonwealth title back to Chatteris for all the people who have backed me throughout my career.
“Winning this belt could be huge for my career. It would really open doors and put me in the mix to go on to fight at British and World level.”
Manchester fighter Doyle boasts a record of 17 wins from his 20 professional outings.
He won the Commonwealth belt earlier this year with a surprise victory against the previously unbeaten Reece Bellotti and now defends for the first time against Gill.
“Doyle is known as a big puncher and he is battle hardened after being in a lot of bigger fights than myself,” added Gill.
“He’s known for being aggressive and he’ll definitely come forward. It will be an exciting 50/50 fight, but it’s one I believe I can win.”
Gill hopes to be cheered on by an army of more than 300 Fenland fight fans.
