The 21 year-old from Chatteris revealed manager John Ingle is looking to match him with Mark Evans over either six or eight rounds on the big show at Sheffield Arena on Saturday, March 26.

Evans is the Welsh Area super-featherweight champion with 11 wins from 16 fights (two draws) and the 34 year-old from Holyhead admits he enjoys a punch-up.

He’s actually ranked four places below Gill at 18th in the latest listings published by trade paper ‘Boxing News.

But the fight on the Sky Sports-televised bill still promises to be possibly the most testing of Gill’s ring career to date.

Gill said: “This is a good fight for me. It’s a step up and that’s what I need.

“I don’t watch too much of my opponents on the internet in case they do something different against me, but from what I’ve seen, he can punch, but he’s there to be hit.

“I’m sure if I stick to my boxing I can handle him. I will see what he brings in the first 30 seconds and then decide what to do.”

Gill has won all 15 fights since turning professional with the Ingles at 18 years old in 2012.

The Ingles - manager John, trainer Dominic and guru Brendan - believe Gill has big potential and he’s building a big following in the Fens.

Gill, who’s been sparring stablemates Leigh Wood and Kid Galahad to prepare for this month’s fight, expects around 200 fans to follow him up to Yorkshire for his first fight of what could be a big year.

He said: “That’s the most tickets I’ve ever sold - and it’s not a short trip from Chatteris to Sheffield. I’m lucky because I’ve always had good support.”

Gill reckons his supporters could see him fight for a major title by the end of the year.

He’s targeting a clash with Isaac Lowe, who last month captured the Commonwealth featherweight title.

The 22 year-old from Morecambe stopped Marco McCullough in eight rounds on the Scott Quigg-Carl Frampton undercard in Manchester.

Gill said: “I thought Lowe looked good when he won the title. But there are definitely ways to beat him - and I’m definitely capable of beating him.

“He’s winning fights and winning in style, so if I beat him it will push me on to bigger things.”

In the top-of-the-bill fight in Sheffield, Kell Brook, Gill’s stablemate, defends his IBF welterweight title against Kevin Bizier, his mandatory challenger from Canada.
