Peterborough puncher Karl Wheeler won the International Cruiserweight Challenge Belt with a points victory over Czech Jindrich Velecky on Saturday (May 14).

Wheeler dominated the entire eight round fight a the iconic York Hall, Bethnal Green despite being hampered by a thumb injury sustained in the opening round.

The 33 year-old couldn’t punch with his normal power, but boxed with great skill to outclass a demoralised opponents.

“I jabbed better than I ever have,” Wheeler stated. “And I threw some body punches that hurt him.

“I dominated the fight and it sets me up for bigger things.”

Wheeler now hopes to fight for the Southern Area title later this year.
