After a year out of the English Women’s Bowling Federation inter-county championships, Northants return to action on Saturday, May 21 with a fixture away to local rivals North Cambs at March.
Northants withdrew last year owing to team-raising issues, but with teams now reduced to five rinks instead of six, coupled with some new additions to the squad, they are now able to fulfil their commitments.
With North Cambs only able to field a Donald Steward Trophy team, it means that Northants’ Silver Jubilee Vase team will have to wait for their first action since 2014.
Northants’ Donald Steward team is under the captaincy of Mary Malton, who replaced Carol Hunter at the 2014 annual meeting, but has had to wait a season for her opportunity.
Fiona Richardson, Norma Squires, Linda Darani (all City of Peterborough). Shirley Suffling (Ketton), Doris Flowers (Yaxley), Julie Masters (Parkway). Sue Moir (Langtoft Pearl), Liz Hext, Sheila Craig (both Conservative). Liz Barr (West Ward), Chris Ford (Ketton), Hazel Bass (Yaxley).
Ann Cullingworth (Langtoft Pearl), Jessica Phillips (City of Peterborough), Joan Padley (Yaxley).
Other squad members: Vie Hatch (West Ward), Ann White (Langftoft Pearl).
The local bowls community have been mourning the sudden death of well-known bowler Bob Crow, who, along with wife Helen, was a member of the Langtoft Pearl club.
A minute’s silence was observed before the annual friendly match between Whittlesey Manor and the Northants Bowling Federation on Saturday, and the county flag was flown at half-mast as a mark of respect.
Peterborough & District withdrew their B team from the Peterborough League before the season got under way owing to a shortage of players. The team were due to play in Midweek League Division Two.
