The Peterborough trio of Howard Shipp, Nick Wilkie and Jeff Newson narrowly missed out on a place in the semi-finals of the English national over 50 triples championship at Nottingham this week.
After defeating Yeovil’s Brian McCoomb, Peter Colby and Mike Tritton 15-12 in the round of the last 16, they were edged out 13-12 by Harry Wood, Roy Buckner and John Anderson, from the Tye Green club in Harlow, by virtue of a last end single.
The city trio led 9-5 and 12-10, but hopes of a semi-final place were dashed when they conceded singles on the last three ends.
The Peterborough senior men’s team remain on course for a top three spot in the Cambs League despite being held to a 75-75 draw by visiting Wisbech A.
After that round of matches, the city team were lying second to Cambridge Chesterton A, but St Neots A and Huntingdon A are hot on their tails with matches in hand.
