Nicky Brett made a great start to the defence of his Co-operative Funeralcare Scottish International Open title in Perth yesterday (November 9).
The Yaxley-based world number one indoors is bidding to take the title for an unprecedented third year running and he made short work of his ex-team-mate from the City of Ely Club Robert Elmore in yesterday’s opening round.
The first set was a one-sided affair with Brett taking the honours 12-3.
In the second set Elmore, playing for the first time in front of the TV cameras, started to settle.
Although Brett got off to a flying start to lead 5-1, Elmore dragged it level at 5-5 at seven ends.
But it was a count of two from Brett on end eight that left Elmore looking for three shots on the final end. He only managed to pick a count of one up and Brett took the tie 12-3, 7-6.
Brett next plays Scotland’s Stewart Anderson on Wednesday (November 11).
