Boughen top rod on the North Level Drain

Castaways AC match at the weekend was fished on the fen drains out at Tydd Gote on the North Level.

It was the club’s first visit to this venue but most enjoyed the day and it certainly won’t be the last time they visit this well run fishery.

Matchwinner was local rod Simon Boughen. He caught roach and perch on the long pole with worm and red maggot and a good tench caught late in the day saw him weigh in 10lb 14oz.

Dave Norville and Paul Dotchin came in equal second, both with 10lb 12oz and both with a bonus tench,

Alan Jopling was fourth with a level 7lb.


Saturday’s match at Float Fish Farm Fishery was spread across the Wagtail and Two Island pools.

Leading the way with 172lb 5oz was Dave Schwinger on Wagtail 18. He caught some big fish from the margins on meat.

On the opposite bank was runner-up Rob Goodson, who fished the feeder, then pole to finish with 154lb 15oz.

Third place went to Barry Young over on the Two Island Pool with 116lb 13oz.
