They kept up their unbeaten start to the season by blitzing a sevens event at Towcester which was being used as the first stage of the selection process for this season’s East Midlands squad.

Borough had two teams competing, one in each pool, and both won all three of their matches, scoring a combined total of 41 tries while conceding just five.

Jorja Matchwick led the way with 12 while Liberty Ashdown and Steffanie Jenkins scored seven apiece and summer recruit Liv Hill scored six on her debut, with no less than eight different players getting tries.

The Under 16 boys’ side came unstuck at Oakham, going down 46-5 with the ever-dependable Brandon Tacticos scoring their only try. He took the ball three-quarters of the length of the pitch to make it eight tries in four matches.

Borough Under 15s played their second East Midlands League match away to Ampthill and lost 37-17.

A sluggish start cost Borough the match though they played well in the second half. Flanker George Salisbury with his usual all-action performance was the pick of the players. Tries were scored by Taylor Shortland, Alexander Loose and Tom Abbondanza with Lawrence Teague kicking one conversion.

Borough Under 13s were in action on a full-size pitch for the first time, after six years of playing on half-sized pitches. They hosted the Cambs RFU Tens at Fengate and although they lost each of their matches, they showed the coaches enough to leave them optimistic ahead of this coming weekend’s Under 13 Festival at Fengate.

The Under 12s strolled through their first home match of the season, defeating Newmarket with over a dozen tries while conceding just one.

The club took part in the Macmillan Cancer Relief’s big coffee morning while the Under 7s to Under 11s played host to both Newmarket and Peterborough Lions, raising more than £300 for the charity.
