“It was 12-12 at half-time and halfway through the second half we were leading 19-12. But then unfortunately we gave away a penalty and were reduced to 14 men with Chris Sykes visiting the sin bin and then a mix-up in our defence let them in for a winning try.

“We got a losing bonus point, we played well, we’re from from downhearted.”

Zac McClure (2) and Matt Newman scored the Borough tries, two of which Newman converted, while players to catch the eye were Newman, McClure, Rob Moulds, Ryan Morris on his return from Peterborough Lions, and Tanaka Kanhukamwe.

Oundle are top of this division after winning 48-19 at home to West Bridgford.

Their try-scorers were Robb Shingles, Will Carrington (2), Craig Tandy, Louie Davis and Gabriel Smithson.
