They entertained Five Ways Old Edwardians from Birmingham yesterday (October 14) and made it four wins out of four in Midlands Division One of the Women’s National Conference with a 22-15 win.

It’s Borough’s first season in Division One following promotion and Rich Parsons’ team have made a terrific start to life at the new level.

They went ahead yesterday with a try from 10 metres out by Sarah Ashton and extended their advantage to 12-0 when Sarah Winder raced in from the halfway line for a superb try converted by Zoe Wright.

But some poor decision-making by the hosts, who had lost scrum-half Nat Elliott to injury, allowed Five Ways to hit back and they scored a second try on the stroke of half-time to reduce the leeway to 12-10.

Borough had the elements at their backs in the second half and when Jess Wilson used her strength to power over following some good rucking, it seemed Borough would pull away.

But Five Ways had other ideas and started to play in Borough territory. Their pressure paid off as they scored a third try to narrow the gap to less than a score.

Now was the time for Borough to dig deep, and they did just that. Ashton was on hand again to make the most of a tiring defence and drive to the line for her second try and stretch the lead.

The final whistle blew shortly after with both teams having contributed to a great game.

Coach Parsons picked Emma Byatt and Steph Warlow as his forward and back of the match.
