Belgian ace Christophe stars for Peterborough club

Peterborough Cycling Club's Belgian rider Christophe Demoulin was in terrific form in the Northants & District CA 10 at Brogborough.

He raced to victory in a very fast time of 20:36 and breathing down his neck in third place was clubmate James Gelsthorpe in 20:50.

Paul Pardoe came in with 21:13 for sixth place out of a 140-strong field and that gave Peterborough another team win.

The club had one road racer in action at the weekend. That was Matt Garfield and he finished third in the Orwell CC event near Ipswich.

FENLAND CLARION

Fenland Clarion rider Andy Gilbert made a very impressive road racing debut when finishing second in the Bourne Wheelers end-of-season race on a 55-mile course around Castle Bytham.

In the penultimate round of the club championships members raced over 25 miles for the Cullip Cup.

Paul Lilley won on the day with his time of 57:36, but with Steve Kaye claiming second place with 58:08 he now has an unassailable lead in the championships.

n Teenage talent Jerry Norman had a great time at the Clarion track championships in the Derby Velodrome.

He won all five events in the Youth A Omnium - the 500m time trial, 10-lap scratch, 2000m pursuit, 20-lap points race and 16-lap scratch race - to score a maximum five points and go one better than last year’s second place.

In the senior events Tom Stokes won the 2000m pursuit in an impressive 2.24.94, while Adam Robinson was second in the sprint final.

n Fenland Clarion are hosting an evening of cycle racing for youths up to 16 years-old. It’s on Friday September 30 at the Embankment athletics track and costs £4 per rider for a minimum of two races. Registration is from 6pm with racing starting at 6.30pm.
