Nene Valley Harriers finished second in their final Southern League Division One fixture of the season at Bedford on Saturday, writes Barry Warne.

Having won the league for two out of the last three years it was always going to be tough to continue the run of success, but a mid table finish was pleasing nonetheless.

As has often been the case this season it was the Hall and Jenkins show as throwers Becki Hall and Andrea Jenkins took centre stage.

Hall won the shot with 12.59m while Jenkins won the B competition. The roles were reversed in the discus with Jenkins throwing 38.35m for her win while Hall took a maximum in the B string event.

Jenkins claimed her third win in the hammer with 47.45m and Kelly Lawrence won the B string with 40.15m..

The men’s throwers were also amongst the points. Simon Achurch won the B shot with 12.22m and was runner-up in the hammer as well as the B discus and javelin. Martin Tinkler threw 38.86m to triumph in the B hammer.

On the track Ronan Rawlins ran 22.66 to win the 200m and captain Dave Bush won the B 400m hurdles in a time of 58.52

Ella Robinson clocked 2:19.74 for first place in the 800m and Josie Fortune’s 1500m time of 5:06.30 was good enough for maximum points in the B race.

Emily Maltby capped a busy afternoon of doing five events when winning the B high jump with 1.35m and the triple jump with 11.13m.

‘Captain Fantastic’ Dave Bush went one better scoring points in six events.
