Reidy is bushwhacked at the end of an exhausting season

Nene Valley Harriers Dave Bush and Sean Reidy went head-to-head in the Eastern Counties Combined Events Championships at the Embankment on Sunday.

Both all-rounders collected medals despite being a little battle weary at the end of a long and arduous outdoor season.

Bush had the upper hand finishing third overall in the decathlon with 2,712 points, and won gold as the leading Suffolk-born athlete.

Reidy was fourth in the final standings and won a silver as the second-placed athlete born in Cambridgeshire.

The 37 year-old action man also set a new Nene Valley veterans record with his 2,470 points tally. He threw a personal best (PB) of 33.94m in the javelin and ran a speedy 4:40.21 in the 1500m.

The highlight for Bush, who is 10 years Reidy’s junior, was a javelin throw of 43.73m.

KETTERING OPEN

Outstanding young Harrier Donovan Capes completed his outdoor season in tremendous fashion at an open meeting in Kettering on Sunday.

He finally smashed the 13m barrier in the shot putt with a huge personal best of 13.33m to go top of the UK rankings for a first year in the Under 15 age group.

OPEN 3,000M

Teenager Owen Wilkinson ran 9:48.4 to comfortably win Nene Valley’s annual open 3,000m in his first outing over the distance.

Nene Valley youngsters filled the top three positions with Harvey Hancock the runner-up in 10:10.3 and Molly Peel third in 10:18.6.

LOCH NESS 10K

Edinburgh-based Nene Valley Harrier Ewan Davidson ran a new PB of 32.31 to take sixth place in the Loch Ness 10k.

WEST PINCHBECK 10K

Bushfield Jogger Martin Gichuhi finished fifth in Sunday’s West Pinchbeck 10lk in 35.32 and clubmate Paul Baxter was 19th in 40.13.

Nene Valley’s Paul Houlden was two places further back in a time of 40.41 and Yaxley’s Gina Crane ran 43.30 to finish as second lady.
