Molly stars for Nene Valley Harriers with a win at Derby

Molly Peel stole the show for Nene Valley Harriers in Saturday's North Midlands Cross-Country League opener at Derby, winning the Under 17 girls race by 44 seconds.

And with Katie Tasker sixth and Amber Park seventh, Nene Valley also celebrated a team win.

It was a good day for the Nene Valley girls who also won the Under 11 age group thanks to Evie Hemmings (3rd), Alexandra Braid (7th) and Ruby Wright (15th).

The Under 15 girls also enjoyed a productive afternoon finishing second. Their team was Chelsie Bole (6th), Flo Brill (10th) and Ellie Rainbow (14th).

For the boys it was more about solid individual performances with Noah Fell leading the Under 11s in 16th position. Felix Bowling was 18th for the Under 13s and there was a fine run from Sam Hughes who was the fourth Under 15.

Archie Rainbow finished 10th for the Under 17 boys.

The senior races saw Peterborough AC narrowly beat Nene Valley, with the Peterborough men finishing sixth to Nene Valley’s seventh. For the ladies Peterborough AC took third place, two positions ahead of Nene Valley.

The standout performers were Alex Hampson, who finished ninth for Nene Valley, covering the 10k course in 34:00 and eighth placed Grace Mullins of PAC in the ladies race.

Ben Heron in 17th led the PAC men home with Phil Martin 22nd.

Mullins was supported by 16th placed Sarah Caskey and Danielle Hunt in 23rd.

Ruth Jones spearheaded the Nene Valley challenge coming 20th, six positions ahead of Emma Randall. The Jones family enjoyed a day out with husband Brian running for the senior men and daughters Esme and Alice making their club debuts in the junior races.
