GREAT EASTERN RUN: Heron leads the way for PAC

There were plenty of other Great Eastern Run success stories from around the region's clubs.

Peterborough Athletic Club had four finishers in the top 100 from a field of 3,500 runners. They were led home by Ben Heron in 26th place in 72:27 then came Phil Martin (33rd in 73:29), Dom Moszkal (53rd in 74:59) and Jon Peet (78th in 77:42).

Paul Halford of Werrington placed 61st with a time of 75:41, three places and 14 seconds ahead of Stamford Strider Mark Popple.

It was a landmark day for Helpston Harriers as the club were represented in a big race for the first time since their recent formation.

Club secretary Jim Morris led them home, finishing 116th in 81:10, and Thomas Musson ran a new PB of 84:33 for 164th position.

Darren Ping, running for Eye Community Runners, came home 122nd in 81:39 with Nene Valley’s Luke Myers running 83:40 for 145th position.

There were plenty of age group prizewinners from the Peterborough area. March AC’s Andrew Larham won the Over 60 age group with an 88:20 clocking with Paul Jephcott (Bushfield) and Jim Grant (Stamford) second and third in 91:14 and 93:09 respectively.

Geraldine Larham, wife ofAndrew, was third Over 45 in 91:54.

Werrington Jogger Ann Wood won the Over 55 ladies race with a time of 1:41.10 finishing just ahead of Great Eastern ever present Eric Winstone, whose time of 1:41.59 saw him finish as third Over 65.

Eye’s Pete Ridley was second Over 70 in 1:46.51.

The junior 5k race was won by James Orrell of BRJ Huntingdon in 17:36. Teammate Keelan Duffy finished runner-up in 18:05.

Third to fifth places were occupied by the Nene Valley trio of Harvey Hancock, Dylan Tomasselli and Sam Oakleyin 18:07,18:15 and 18:17.

Ella Robinson of Nene Valley was the first girl over the line in 18:40 with fellow Harrier Olivia Mead running 19:55 for third place.
