There was another English Colleges League victory for Peterborough Regional College yesterday (October 10).

They were away at Hills Road in Cambridge and returned with a 45-25 win in the bag.

But coach Lewis Capes described the performance as ‘messy’.

He said: “We weren’t helped by the extended journey. It took us two and a half hours to get there as the A14 was closed due to a major accident and that meant there was little time for a warm-up. That led to a slow start and Hills made it hard for us around the breakdowns. We know we’ll need to improve when we play Oaklands next.”

Hooker Jack Davis smashed over for Peterborough’s first score and then winger Ryan Adams flew in for a great individual try.

A few minutes later Adams again caused the Cambridge side problems with his speed. He chased a kick from fly-half Hudson Rees-Jones that covered half the length of the pitch and beat the defender to pick up and score.

Hills Road fought back with a couple of tries of their own to stay in touch but another great individual try - this time from centre Will Wand - followed by a touchdown from scrum-half Ollie Machin from a sniping run from a scrum gave Peterborough the edge at half-time.

The second half was almost a stalemate with Hills scoring again and Wand and Adams going over for further tries for Peterborough.
