Catching perch is all the rage in the angling world right now, with drop shotting the bright new method.
But sometimes you just can’t beat good old worms with a sprinkling of casters to bring them on the feed.
Worm was certainly top bait for Deeping St James anglers in an impromptu match on the River Glen.
Double figures won the match but it was several big perch taken by Mike Smith that stole the show, his best weighing over 4lb, a cracking specimen in anyone’s book. Not many anglers have ever seen a 4lb perch let alone caught one.
Young Harry Murphy won the Webb’s AC match on the Horseshoe Pool at Float Farm.
He fished a small feeder and caught on several hair-rigged baits and red maggot to weigh in a modest 14lb 14oz.
Alan Forrest came second with 10lb 12oz with George Bates third on 6lb 11oz.
Match-winner Paul Kilby put a massive 71lb 15oz of tench to the scales in the Ramsey & District Angling Society match at Ramsey St Mary’s.
Second was Andrew Kilby with 18lb 5oz and third Ivan Steels with 17lb 1oz.
