Old Nene is ruddy marvellous for main man Miller

The second practice round for the East Midlands Winter League took place on on a very wet and at times windy Old Nene at March and Creek Cottage.

There was a fine turnout despite the conditions and thankfully the venue was in great form with rudd and roach showing in numbers.

In fact, it was so good that just about every section was won with 10lb plus, quite remarkable even for this venue.

Next came Rob Wright with 29lb 6oz from behind the swimming pool. He worked hard all day with probably the best small fish net of the day. Third was Graham Welton on 26lb 4oz.

CASTAWAYS

Castaways AC fished the North Level Drain on a wet and windy Sunday but managed to find plenty of fish despite the conditions.

Top rod and recording his first win for the club was Daniel Curtis, who caught a net of roach and rudd together with a bonus tench to give him a total of 11lb 8oz.

Runner-up was Mike Smith with 10lb 9oz followed by Dave Norville on 9lb 4oz.

WHITTLESEY

Whittlesey’s latest match fished at Holloway’s Bridge was won by match organiser Jeff Tuttlebee.#

He took the honours with 8lb 6oz of roach, rudd and perch , all caught on the waggler with pinkie.

Second was Mike Mohan who caught a beautiful conditioned tench of around 5lb in his 8lb. Third was Arthur Smallman with another small fish catch of 5lb 3oz.

There was yet another great result for those fishing the Ramsey midweek match on the Old Nene at Ramsey St Mary’s.

With no bonus fish showing, it quickly became a small fish race.

It was close at the top with Keith Rayment just edging ahead of the field from peg three. He fished a short whip catching over 450 fish, mainly rudd, for 17lb 8oz.

Coming a close second was Malc Sansome with 17lb 6oz. on peg five and third was Malc Hobbs with 15lb 5oz followed by Ken Taylor on 14lb 13oz.

On Sunday, club anglers fished The Narrows for the Phil Aldred Memorial Cup and this time it was John Paine taking the honours on peg two with 16lb 14oz.

Stu Cheetham came second with 10lb 8oz, followed by Matt Page with 9lb 2oz and John Price on 8lb 13oz.

YAXLEY

Yaxley, Farcet, Holme and DAC fished their latest match on The Bower with tremendous success.

Quality roach and skimmers, as well as a 2lb perch were caught along the stretch and everyone went home with a smile on their faces.

It was bread punch that took most of the fish and Lionel Whaley had the winning weight of 11lb 13oz, fishing a short pole line.

John Furnell was second with 11lb and Paul Marriott third with 10lb 1oz..

DEEPING

Deeping fished for the John Slack Memorial Trophy on the club’s own lake near Wansford and many struggled for bites never mind fish.

Kevin Crompton had his first win with the club on peg 29. He fished a long pole line over groundbait with worm, taking three carp for 26lb 5oz.

Second was Bob Browett on peg 33 with 22lb 2oz and third Jason Chatham on peg 18 with 17lb 14oz.
