Pike anglers have had the pick of the action right across the fens over the past couple of weeks. Despite the unusually mild conditions the pike have been on the feed.
The best venues appear to be the North Level Drain and also French Drove.
On the Drove you can expect plenty of action from the smaller samples while on the main drain some really big fish have been taken with the best I’ve come across being a fine 26lb 4oz specimen taken by Harry Lucraft.
He caught the fish at Church Lane on a smelt deadbait. It was his first ever visit to the North Level Drain and he also had a smaller fish of 5lb earlier in the day and was about to pack up when the big fish struck just before dark.
ANGLING TRUST QUALIFIER
On Sunday the Ramsey club ran a very successful Angling Trust Pike Qualifier on the Narrows section of the Forty Foot Drain.
One of the area’s top pike anglers Paul Lenton took first place with five fish going to the scales at 16lb.
Just missing out was Keith Rayment with 15lb 15oz. He had five fish including the biggest of the day at 8lb 2oz.
Third was Derek Mansell with 12lb 2oz.
