A bitterly cold wind blowing across the fens saw JVAC officials thankful that Decoy Lakes was not that busy at the weekend and they were able to switch lakes so that most anglers had the luxury and comfort of a back wind.

This was reflected in the result too with Roger Gowler putting a fine 97lb 12oz of carp to the scales from peg seven on the Oak Pool.

He caught most of his fish on a groundbait feeder with red maggot hook bait. The in-form Andy Kelk took second place fishing a pellet cone for 77lb 2oz.

It was not quite so good on the Cedar Pool which saw Alan Warren out in front from peg nine fishing the pole with pellet for 50lb 4oz. Runner-up on this pool was Barry Gilson with 42lb 4oz from peg six.

No such luck for the Cock Inn club fishing Four Islands at Decoy though.

With the lake open to the elements it was difficult to hold a pole at times let alone fish it at any distance.

Top rod was Steve Smith with 47lb 4oz from peg eight. He caught on maggot fishing along the bank down towards the next peg.

Paul Faulkner was second with 42lb 12oz and Bob Mills third with 36lb 10oz.
