The heavy midweek downpour saw a lot of extra water coming into fenland waterways and it did affect the action in the last March Open of the season on the Old Nene.
But when you also take into consideration the massive pressure put on the venue over the past month due to the big Angling Trust Winter League final, the water still fished reasonably well.
Top rod was March angler Gavin Wright. He drew the end peg down at the bypass and took full advantage of the good draw going all out for tench on a long pole chopped worm and caster approach.
It paid off handsomely as he romped to a fine victory finishing with 10 tench and a few perch for 29lb 9oz.
At the very next peg was runner-up Steve Harwood. He put five tench to the scales fishing similar tactics for 15lb 3oz.
Then another local rod, Sammy McSpadden, took third place with one tench, perch and around 6lb of roachweighing 14lb 8oz.
John Taylor came fourth on 13lb 9oz followed by Paul Constable with 12lb 10oz.
Some good weights were taken in the Saturday Open match at Decoy Lakes fished on the Beastie Pool.
Leading the way from peg 29 was Keiran Woods. He alternated between the pole and feeder with red maggot to take a 74lb 4oz net of carp and barbel.
Second from unfancied peg two was Deeping angler Rob Goodson with 65lb 6oz followed by Mark Perkins (62lb 3oz) and Mick Whittaker (57lb 11oz).
On Sunday JVAC fished a very patchy Six Island Pool at Decoy and it was most of the corner pegs that provided the best of the action.
Topping a strong field from peg nine was Kevin Wilmot.
Despite an overnight frost, the fish seem to be feeding in quite shallow water so Wilmot decided to concentrate all his attention along the end bank, targeting three spots on the long pole.
It was tough going to start with, but he eventually found the fish feeding by introducing a mix of maggot and pellet and was catching well towards the end of the match. He finished with a very respectable 98lb 15oz.
Runner-up from peg four was Jay Richardson, who caught to his right-hand margin, netting carp to 8lb on pellet to weigh in 68lb 3oz.
Will Hadley took third place from peg 15 with 66lb 13oz.
The Over 55s at Decoy Lakes on Friday saw Dave Thornton out in front from peg 14 fishing the pole and pellet approach for 68lb 6oz.
That was just enough to see off the challenge of Tom Wilson at the next peg.
He put 65lb 8oz to the scales, and was followed by Shaun Best on 56lb 10oz.
