Father and son lead the way

It was a Marriott one-two in the latest Yaxley, Farcet, Holme and District AC points match fished at the Bower.

It was the experience of Ivan Marriott that beat son Paul by a very clear margin.

Marriott Senior used breadpunch on the pole at five metres, before being forced to a seven-metre line to keep the catch rate going for his 7lb 6oz.

Marriott Junior also used breadpunch at five metres, but lost his fish half way through the match and could only manage 3lb 8ozs.

Third was Steve Cox with 1lb 5oz of roach, also caught on breadpunch mostly in the last hour.

RAMSEY

In the midweek Ramsey & District Angling Society match on Ramsey St Mary’s it was John Payne taking the honours with 19lb 6oz from peg eight.

He fished pinkie on whip, but had a better stamp of fish later in the match on hemp and tares.

Ivan Steels took the runner-up spot on 18lb 9oz, fishing the whip and waggler.

Stuart Cheetham came third with 16lb 14oz, followed by Ken Taylor with 15lb 14oz.

Factory Bank was the club’s Sunday venue and out in front with 12lb 10oz was Harry Young from peg two. He caught small fish on the whip and a good run of better fish late in the match on tares.

Next came Paul Kilby (11lb 13oz) and Malc Hobbs (11lb 7oz) and Andrew Elding (10lb 11oz).

The North Level Drain has been in good form this season but the controlling club Tydd Gote AC are not resting on their laurals and last week started phase one of a winter stocking programme of tench with the help of the Environment Agency. More stockings of breamwill follow.

In the Wednesday Tydd Gote match on the Main Road section of the North Level Drain it was Andrew Kilby taking the honours with 17lb 10oz of roach and skimmers taken on the pole and whip.

Second was Mick Asker with 17lb 8oz, then came John Taylor with 12lb 10oz.
