For most of the field it was tough going in the latest Deeping St James club match on the River Welland through the town.

Leading the way with an impressive 9lb 6½oz of perch was Paul Dotchin from peg 24 fishing on the pole with worm.

Just two pegs away was runner up Dave Norville on 5lb 4oz, again all perch, followed by Nigel Briggs on 3lb 7oz.

Unfortunately with no roach showing and the extra water yet to arrive it did not fish as well as expected.

It’s a very big weekend coming up for several local anglers taking part in this year’s Riverfest final fished over two days on the River Wye.

Taking part will be Colin Oakman and Tim Nash from Huntingdon, Dave Cooper from March and RAF man Craig Shaw from Peterborough.

Reports last weekend suggest the venue could well be in top form.
