Dawson does it again on Magpie Pool

Have your say

In the Rookery Waters £1,000 qualifying open match fished on the Magpie Pool once again it was Tony Dawson taking the top spot putting an excellent 198lb 12oz to the scales from peg three.

Dawson fished corn and maggots down the margins to catch carp, barbel and brown goldfish.

Runner-up was Graham Welton with 158lb 6oz and third Geoff Arnold with 153lb 4oz.

In the Wednesday Over 60s match it was Jim Garrity topping the field with 122lb 12oz followed by Roger Gowler (114lb 4oz) and Steve Tyler (97lb 8oz).

This Saturday (July 18) there will be another open match on the River Nene on the Orton Downstream section stream.

Carl Street has taken up the challenge of providing matchmen who have waited a very long time to see matches return to the river with the opportunity to competitively fish the Orton area once again.

It’s not going to get a big turnout but a decent result will slowly draw anglers back to the Nene if he can be persuaded to keep running matches.

The draw at Orton Staunch Locks is at 8am with fishing from 9.30am until 3.30pm. There’s no need to book just turn up on day.
