More and more anglers seem to be heading over to Rookery Waters trying to qualify for the grand final to be fished later in the year and which is worth £1,000 to the winner.

In the Saturday qualifier at the venue, a cold easterly wind and a slight frost during the night made the fish wary for the first couple of hours but they came onto the feed late on.

Jimmy Brooks won with 55 carp in his 138lb 12oz haul. Runner-up was in-form Fish ‘O’ Mania qualifier Josh Pace with 111lb 6oz and third was Rob Anstee on 103lb 4oz.

The Thursday qualifier on Jay Lake saw Rob Wright put an impressive 164lb 8oz to the scales with John Young second on 69lb 4oz and Steve Dorks third with 67lb 8oz.

As an added bonus the fishery also ran a Bank Holiday Monday qualifier.

Spalding angler Matt Arnold went through to the final after topping a strong field with 186lb 2oz.

Next came young Adam Swain with 128lb 6oz on his first visit to the venue, then came Simon Godfrey with 116lb 6oz.
