Big changes are taking place at Rookery Farm Fishery at Pidley.

Well known local matchman Alex Bates will be running the fishing events at the fishery and he also tells me there will be a café and tackle shop on site too.

He has a big fixture list already set out starting with a series of matches leading up to a two-day final on Saturday and Sunday August 22 and 23. Qualifiers will be fished every Thursday and Saturday starting on Saturday March 7.

Draw times are 9am with fishing 10.30am until 4.30pm with optional pools on the day. The two-day final will be £50 entry to be paid up front and pays out 1st £1,000, 2nd £500, 3rd £250, 4th £200 and 5th £150. Section winners will also collect £50.

Booking is essential so contact Alex on 07824878492. He will also be running an over 60s match each week and there could well be a junior event and a winter series is also planned.

Local rod Olly Jary caught one of the best rainbow trout of the season so far from Elinor last week, weighing 9lb 8oz.

The fishing has been tough going for most though due to strong winds and cold nights.
