Baxter at his Sunday best for a sweet success on the Beastie Lake

Pierce Baxter took the top spot from peg two, catching 170lb 14oz on the pole close in with sweetcorn.

Runner-up from peg 15 was Des Proud, who was another angler fishing the margins for most of the day. Feeding heavily with micros and sweetcorn, he finished on 165lb 4oz.

In third place came Dave Whiting with 139lb 2oz.

JVAC

A good turnout for the JVAC club saw them fishing on Six Islands and Four Islands at Decoy Lakes.

On Four Islands it was Ian Frith leading the way. He was on peg nine and caught to the island fishing shallow with caster for 77lb 12oz.

Second was Mick King on peg five with 65lb 10oz caught on meat and maggot.

Over on Six Islands hot peg 13 was again the peg to pull out of the bag and in this match it was Alan Marshall doing the business. He duly topped the field with 91lb 4oz, fishing to the island with banded pellet.

Runner-up was Gus Gausden on peg 11. He weighed in 78lb 11oz catching close in on the pole with meat and sweetcorn.

FENLAND RODS

The Fenland Rods match saw a battle royal at the top of the leaderboard between two anglers in fine form, Tony Nisbett and Kev Lee.

The venue was the Cedar Pool on the Decoy complex and with the fish feeding well in the margins it became a fish race.

Both caught fish to double figures, Nisbett fishing sweetcorn on peg 24 while Lee relied on cat meat.

At the final whistle it was Nisbett who took the honours putting 170lb 5oz to the scales with Lee weighing in 169lb 8oz.

Third was Mac Campbell on 98lb 13oz, followed by Les Bedford, who did really well from unfancied peg one to put 80lb 4oz to the scales.

OVER 55S

Six Islands at Decoy Lakes was the venue for the Friday Over 55s match and a tricky north easterly breeze put something of a dampener on sport.

However, in-form Keith Rayment defied the headwind on peg 13 and caught 123lb 5oz of carp and F1s on the pole close in on both paste and cat meat.

Close behind and almost opposite on peg six was ‘Mr Consistent’ Chris Saunders who caught on cat meat on various lines to run him close on 121lb 15oz.

Next in third place came Roy Whincup with 97lb from peg 17.

That was the final round of the Summer League which saw Saunders finish in pole position with 19 points (11 section wins).

Second was Roy Whincup on 24 points, followed by Gordon Parker with 27.
