One of the big matches of the weekend was the winter series run on the Beastie Lake on the Decoy complex.

March rod and match organiser Barry Mason has raised a few eyebrows with his section pegs but most will agree he has done a very good job of working the sections so that each one is as fair as possible.

And that’s never easy through the summer months let alone at this time of year.

The Guru/Bag Em sponsored event saw Yaxley angler Simon Dow out in front on another difficult day on the lake. He drew peg four and fished a long pole line for most of the day catching F1s and carp on red maggot for 62lb 11oz.

Pushing him all the way to the final whistle was Martyn Freeman. He was on peg 17 and caught on a feeder, recording 61lb 8oz.

Third place went to organiser Barry Mason with 55lb 13oz and another local rod, Peter Carter from Chatteris, did well to claim the top spot in ‘C’section.

A section winner was Martin Freeman: B - Simon Dow; C – Pete Carter; D – Nigel Baxter.
